Error saving audio segment – app cannot write to default storage path on Android 8

Title: Error saving audio segment + UI cropped at bottom (Android 8)

Hi,
I’m using Listen on Android 8 (BlackBerry KEY2).

Recording started correctly after enabling storage permission, but after a short time I consistently get the error:
“error saving audio segment”.

The app appears to write to:

/sdcard/Android/data/com.listen.app/files/

However, this directory remains empty, and no audio segments are saved.

Notes:

Microphone and storage permissions are granted
It worked once initially after I enabled storage permission, then failed consistently
Battery optimization is disabled
Plenty of free storage available
No option in the UI to change the recording directory

Additionally, the UI is partly cropped at the bottom of the screen on my device.
The screen does not scroll, and the Settings button is only half visible, but still clickable. This is currently the only way I can access Settings. I’ve attached an image showing the issue.

It seems the app cannot reliably write to the default storage path on this device / Android version, and there may also be a layout issue on certain screen sizes.

I've released a beta version (1.2.0-beta) that should fix both the storage issue and UI cropping on your device. You can download it from https://hromp.com/listen/

Since I don't have an Android 8 device to test with, I'd really appreciate if you could try it out and let me know if the fixes work for you.

Here’s a more detailed update after further testing on Android 8 – BlackBerry KEY2:

Button behavior:
– Stop / Play / Pause work reliably at all times
– Previous / Next / Delete / Save do not respond initially
– After tapping around the UI these buttons woke up once and became clickable

Save behavior:
– Once the Save button became responsive, tapping it triggers the same “error saving audio segment” message as before

UI state:
– The UI layout remains unchanged

Note: the BlackBerry KEY1 / KEY2 use a non-standard display size and aspect ratio due to the permanent hardware keyboard, which may explain the touch and layout inconsistencies observed near the bottom of the screen.
