Nowadays beamers are 16:9 in aspect ratio. Trying to use this with the cea template will mess up the layout pretty bad.

First, I would not say "Nowadays beamers are 16:9 in aspect ratio" ; I guess it depends on your field (for scientific presentation, 4:3 allows for more developments on a single slide). Then, you should be more specific about your concern. I actually tried the 16:9 aspect ratio on the snippet I provide, and it is not all that bad (except of course for the last page which is obviously tailored for specific dimensions but can easily be adapted).
