Cannot figure out how to use the PWA offline

Hello, I'm on android and I installed the PWA using Chrome. As a backend I'm using GitLab and everything works fine except for the fact that if I'm not connected to the internet, when opening organice on mobile I get an alert saying:
There was an error retrieving files! and if I click Ok I'm stuck with an empty screen.

According to the documentation the app should work also if offline. Am I missing something?

If it helps I have Sync on application becoming visible set to ON but, as far as I understand, according to this issue, it shouldn't be an issue.
