Options to enable or disable texts on the screen.

Hi, I think it would be great if there were an option to enable or disable the prompt and output texts on the screen. For instance, I customized the emoji pack and uploaded it to the device (I prefer full-screen mode). When interacting with the AI through questions and answers, I can still see parts of the text on the screen. Moreover, it sometimes pushes my image slightly up and down. Being able to disable the text would fix this issue, as audio-based Q&A is sufficient in some cases.

It would be much nicer if you could release an exclusive version of the product that I’ve attached below.

Moreover, the top bar currently contains Chinese text. It would be appreciated if there were an option to change the language settings.

Alternatively, could we access a YAML file so that we can add these features ourselves and build the BIN file from it?

If you build the firmware yourself, use the following command to change the language.

# cd xiaozhi-esp32
# python scripts/release.py [board_name] # or --list-boards to look for your board
# idf.py menuconfig # Search "language" and select
# idf.py build flash monitor

@78 Thanks, I was able to change the language. However, I realized that after flashing this firmware, I am unable to customize my device (such as changing the theme, emoji pack, etc., inside xiaozhi.me).

Customization function is available for 2.0.4 or main branch version. Check you firmware version when you build the project.

This PR #1438 adds an option to disable texts and also solves the emoji jittering probem.

Is it possible to remove the emoji or move it to the top left like older version? I like the we chat mode text, I tried to remove the emoji pack but there is a ghost emoji keep popping up in the center of screen after the speech finished.

I think for those who like the emoji with no texts, the emoji need to be a bit bigger.

Starting from version 2.0, emojis can be customized. If you use the old method, their size will cause the top status bar to be stretched significantly. Therefore, it has now been changed to a floating layer.

If the emoji does not disappear after the device goes into standby, this is likely a bug. Currently, you can edit the code to set the emoji to automatically disappear after being displayed for a certain time, which prevents it from obscuring any text.

I just updated to 2.0.5 and did it a few times - my XiaoZhi speaks and responds like normal but the screen is mirrored and the emoji did not appear. and there's the mirrored text only on the top. I was on 2.0.2. I think it's something to do with my screen? There's this error:

the error is still happening after i updated 2.0.5 and tried updating 4 times, still same results. my xiaozhi is responding like normal but screen is mirrored and emoji did not appeared. I'm using: esp32s3, 16MB, esp-box-3 and i downloaded this attached. You can see the screen shows the word mirrored, and the emoji did not appear too. just words at the top.

Does the board type match? IIRC, there are esp-box, esp-box-3, esp-box-lite and the LCD displays might differ.
