Join: Project PartyAmp (a WinAmp addition)

WinAmp is a beloved music player that many people remember for its:

1. Radical skins:

2. Organization System (ie Star ratings)

3. And Smart playlists

These are all things the world is severely missing in an era of Bland UI™©, one heart, and AI suggestions.

Here's the plan:

1. Cool Skins - Create a winamp skin compatible UI. This will make every winamp skin from all of time usable. They are basically just a .zip with some images that act similar to sprite sheets. This should be a very easy UI to make. Perhaps a v2 could make it more modular, but (for now) keeping old skins alive is an easy and fulfilling first step.

2. Star ratings - Stars are just exclusive tags. A tag enum. To make sure features are useful for all file management, it would be best (IMO) to create a tag edit flow for the file browser in general. Then figure out the enum part (ie can't have both 1 and 5 star tag)
3. Smart playlists - This would involve extending the search feature, then making a search savable. A smart playlist is just a saved search.

Bonus, by having tagging and smart playlists, we can also do "crate style" music organization. It is popular with DJs.

@9001 I'm very interested in your thoughts on tags, tag enums, and savable searches. These can be totally independent from music, and would allow for all sorts of cool features.

I was not planning to respond to this, but since you are forcing my hand:

No, I will not work on this. But perhaps someone else will, so my plan was to not respond to this, and leave the idea on the table, in case anyone feels the call to pick it up. In that case I wish them the best of luck, because this will be a lot of work.

But trying to actively recruit people into working on this, especially by reaching out to other projects, is absolutely not ok. Don't do that.

This is purely a passion project for me, and my recruitments are an invitation to find others who share the passion. I like to code for fun, and I love to do it with other people who also are having fun. There is no profit here, nor do I have an ego vested.

I would like to be working with you, and not against in any way.

I'm not trying to push them into working for me. My suspicion is that they are very proud of their WinAmp player, and that they would like to see it used in more contexts. That is how I would feel if I made their project. I'm checking to see if they are interested.

I'm going to close the topic for now. I'll continue figuring out how to make it happen on my own, and share the results later.
