bash setup rather than zshenv?

I found out about this project while exploring the usenet comp.lang.ada newsgroup and am really excited to try Ada out. cf https://fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event/fosdem-2025-5056-get-started-with-ada-in-2-minutes-or-less-/

I just tried running the installer and noticed that it plans to modify .profile and .zshenv. I haven't completed the install script yet since I am unsure about the fact that I am using bash -- should I expect anything to not work? How should I configure .bashrc or something else to get the same effect?

Getada checks to see if you have bash or sh installed, and if you do it adds it to ~/.profile (bash should automatically source ~/.profile since it's a Bourne compatible shell). It also adds it to ~/.zshenv if it detects that you have zsh installed (even if you're not using it to run Getada), so as long as it's adding to ~/.profile it should work (if it does not, please let me know!)

The reason I'm not having it update ~/.bash_profile separately is because bash will end up sourcing the config twice -- once when it sources it in ~/.profile and once when it sources ~/.bash_profile.

I'm actually going to leave this issue open though, as there's no way in GetAda to specify to only configure for certain shells and not others (for example, if you didn't want zsh and just wanted sh/bash), I can work towards updating that with an argument or environment variable, but in short: you should be able to run it fine while using bash to run getada.

P.S. After installing getada, it'll ask you to run a command beginning with a period to source the config, regardless of what shell you're using. You can also just restart your terminal.
