6+
7+
We have commissioned a sticker pack from [五十根炸虾](https://www.mihuashi.com/profiles/571437) to help promote our community mascots. These stickers will be available as chat stickers and used as (parts of) our souvenirs and merchandises.
8+

## Budget
10+
11+
The sticker pack was commissioned for a price of CNY 700, with CNY 100 contributed by [Kexy Biscuit](https://github.com/KexyBiscuit) who has already paid the full amount - we are crowdsourcing CNY 600 to reimburse the costs.

title: '[COMPLETE] Printing the AOSCC 2021 Sticker Set'
3+

5+
6+
This is a proposal to crowdsource the necessary funds to print the AOSCC 2021 Sticker Set.
7+
8+
Per community tradition, we have created a new sticker set that includes community logos, memes, and mascots - a set of three pages.
9+
10+
Due to material change (from paper to PVC to improve quality and durability) and supply chain issues, the price to print this year's community sticker set rised significantly. Stickers will be distributed free-of-cost by request, recipients will pay postage.

title: '[COMPLETE] Build Server Upgrades'
3+
draft: false
4+
date: 2023-10-30
5+
---
6+
7+
This crowdsourcing campaign aims to upgrade two of our build servers, "kp920" (AArch64, 24426) and "Stomatapoda" (LoongArch, 27863), to alleviate each of their performance constraints.
8+
9+
- The scratch disk (buildroots) on kp920 was powered by a mechanical SAS drive, which significantly dragged out Ciel's intensive I/O operations - such as system upgrades and dependency installation. We would like to purchase a SAS SSD for this machine.
10+
- On Stomatapoda, the 16-core Loongson 3C5000 chip was only paired with 32GiB of RAM, which is not sufficient for building some applications without eating deep into the swap space. For instance, building Mozilla Firefox 117.0.1 with LTO enabled required more than 80GiB of RAM. We would like to purchase 128GiB of RAM for this machine.
11+
12+
## Budget
13+
14+
- kp920.
15+
- 1 \* HGST Ultrastar SS200, 800GB: CNY 500.
16+
- Stomatapoda.
17+
- 4 \* UniIC S2332GU3200ZG2, 32GiB, DDR4 Registered ECC @ 3200MT/s: CNY 700 * 4 = 2,800.
18+
19+
Totals: CNY 3,300.
20+
21+
## Timeline
22+
23+
Shortly after the completion of this crowdsourcing campaign:
24+
25+
- The HGST SSD will be purchased and shipped to kp920's host.
26+
- The RAM modules will be procured through Loongson and installed by tomatapoda's host at Loongson Wuhan.

title: '[COMPLETE] Upgrade Primary AMD64 Build Server (22333)'
3+
draft: false
4+
date: 2023-01-27
5+
---
6+
7+
This page outlines the plans to upgrade our primary AMD64 build server (22333).
8+
9+
After over three years in service, our primary AMD64 build server started to exhibit performance issues (especially with Qemu-built ports, such as RISC-V and MIPS R6, which saturated our PorterAle emulated build host). Moreover, some of the parts on the server began to show excess wear (the Intel SSD 750 which hosts our scratch disk has a total write of over 350TiB, which is more than 100TiB over manufacturer’s specifications).
10+
11+
These circumstances, in addition to the core count and RAM capacity limitations found with our current AM4/X570 platform, has led us to believe that our primary AMD64 build server can benefit from a platform upgrade. This upgrade aims to achieve the following:
12+
13+
- Higher build efficiency with a processor upgrade.
14+
- Higher RAM capacity for a scratch-disk-on-RAM configuration.
15+
- Replacing end-of-life components like the SSD.
16+
17+
## Budget
18+
19+
We would like to budget 17,000 CNY (2,506.12 USD as of January 27, 2023). The actual quote is 16612.99 CNY (2,449.07 as of January 27, 2023). We will refund the excess funds upon this crowdsourcing project’s completion.
20+
21+
+ Key platform components
22+
- Motherboard: 1 × Gigabyte MZ31-AR0
23+
- Processor: 1 × AMD EPYC 7R32 (48 cores, 96 threads)
24+
- RAM: 16 × Samsung M393A8K40B21-CTC0Q (64GiB, DDR4 2400MT/s, Registered ECC; total capacity 1TiB)
25+
+ Storage
26+
- System and local repository mirror: 1 × Intel SSD 750 (1.2TB)
27+
+ Accessories and peripherals
28+
- Cooling: 1 × Coolserver SP3 P42
29+
- Case, thermal paste, etc.
30+
31+
## Timeline
32+
33+
- Spring 2023: Crowdsourcing and purchase (Lain Yang). We will purchase the parts in the order as they are listed above, as funds become available. Donations collected in US Dollars will be wired to a Chinese account via Western Union.
34+
- Summer 2023: Transportation to Mingcong Bai, the server host (Jiangjin Wang).

title: '[COMPLETE] Upgrade Primary Repository Server'
3+
date: 2021-06-05
4+
---
5+
6+
This is a proposal to crowdsource an HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprise) ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus to host the community's primary repo and source code caching (for offline package building purposes) services.
7+
8+
Currently, the community's primary repository server is sponsored by xTom, but the storage space on that server is limited. Therefore, the community hopes to acquire a server with sufficient storage capacities to replace the current one. In addition, with the expanded storage capacities, the community also hopes to use this server for storing the source archives of packages, which would enable building packages offline. Finally, the current repository server is also slightly underpowered for the p-vector dependency scanner, and the community hopes to have this rectified.
9+
10+
This proposal aims to acquire a server with sufficient storage capacities and performance to host the aforementioned services, while still keeping the total costs under control. The ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus has just enough storage and memory capacity for these services, and with a proper CPU upgrade, will have enough compute capability to fulfill the needs of the p-vector dependency scanner.
11+
12+
## Budget
13+
14+
Update: The funds and additional hardware needed to complete this project have been fulfieed, thanks to everyone who contributed!
15+
16+
Sijie Bu, a community member, will provide the following moderately used hardware at discounted prices as his way of supporting this project:
17+
18+
+ HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus Base System (320 USD):
19+
- Originally equipped with an Xeon E-2224 processor and 16GB DDR4 ECC UDIMM, upgraded to 32GB (compatible but non-matching) memory.
20+
- Comes with the iLO Enablement Kit (HPE SKU # P13788-B21) installed.
21+
- Has some stickers on it, but could be removed if needed.
22+
+ System drive kit (30 USD):
23+
- One (1) QNAP QM2-2S-220A Dual M.2 22110/2280 SATA SSD Expansion Card, with two M.2 SATA slots and integrated ASMedia SATA controller.
24+
- One (1) 250GB WD Blue SATA M.2 2280 SSD.
25+
+ Data drives:
26+
- Two (2) Western Digital Ultrastar HC310 4TB hard drives, originally purchased as OEM/gray market drives (w/o warranty from WD) (215 USD total).
27+
- Two (2) Western Digital Ultrastar HC520 12TB hard drives, shucked from WD Black D10 external drives (125 USD total).
28+
29+
The following upgrades needs to be purchased at marked prices, but can be croudsourced as either a direct donation or funding support:
30+
31+
+ [Purchased as used] CPU:
32+
- Either an Xeon E-2234 or Xeon E-2236 will be required. However the final decision would rely on the progress of crowdsourcing.
33+
- Xeon E-2234: 230 USD.
34+
- [Selected] Xeon E-2236: 340 USD.
35+
+ [Purchased as new] Secondary boot SSD (250 GB, optional):
36+
- Needed if redundant boot drive is required (desirable since the server will be hosted in a data center out of easy reach of community members).
37+
- WD Blue SATA M.2 2280: 44.99 USD.
38+
- [Selected] Samsung 860 EVO M.2 SATA: 44.99 USD.
39+
40+
(CPU prices are from eBay and SSD prices are from Amazon US, both pre-tax)
41+
42+
## FAQ
43+
44+
+ Why not buy new hardware (especially the hard drives)?
45+
- Giving the current market prices of hard drives, buying new ones (whether with warranty or not) are prohibitively costly.
46+
- Current (Jun 05 2021) prices for Ultrastar HC310 4TB (Amazon US Marketplace, gray market): 188.08 USD.
47+
- Current (Jun 05 2021) prices for WD Black D10 12T external HDD (Amazon US): 399.99 USD.
48+
+ What are the conditions of the hardware?
49+
- The ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus originally served as a home NAS since June 2020; and all the hard drives were originally used as data drives on this server. The WD SSD was originally used as an external drive, but did not see any use beside a few operating system transfers. So all of them are in moderately used condition and are all around one year old.
50+
+ How are the prices derived?
51+
- Since all the hardware are still current-generation (within the respective HPE, QNAP, and Western Digital lineups) and relatively niche, there are no reliable used market reference prices.
52+
- Therefore, the final prices for the server and hard drives are approximated by halving the original pre-tax purchase prices.
53+
- The final prices for the boot drive kit (M.2 adapter and SSD) is only a reflection of the time that Sijie took to assemble the kit with the selected drives and a guarantee of them in working order.
54+
- The original purchase prices of the hardware are of the following:
55+
- HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus Xeon E-2224 16GB S100i (CDW): 703.99 USD.
56+
- HPE iLO Enablement Kit (CDW): 115.99 USD.
57+
- Silicon Power 16GB Hynix IC DDR4 2666MHz 2Rx8 ECC UDIMM (Amazon US): 92.99 USD.
58+
- Ultrastar HC310 4TB HDD (two different Newegg Marketplace sellers): 119.99 USD and 129.95 USD.
59+
- WD Black D10 12TB external HDDs (Amazon US): 223.99 USD each (two pieces).
60+
- QNAP QM2-2S-220A Dual M.2 22110/2280 SATA SSD Expansion Card (Amazon US): 99.00 USD.
61+
- WD Blue SATA 250GB M.2 2280 SSD (Newegg): 44.99 USD.
62+
+ Why upgrade the CPU?
63+
- The Xeon E-2224 (4C4T) is still underpowered for the p-vector dependency scanner, but it is also the best CPU officially supported by HPE. Therefore, we need to install our own CPU upgrade for the purpose.
64+
65+
