Unsatisfying Images Using a different Model other than SD 1.5. What am I missing?

My prompt was just 'a dog' and with the SD 1.5 that is automatically installed I get this:

But then with any other model I get something like this:

These were with me trying to use SDXL. I'd like to try SDXL and SDXL turbo but I can't get good images. I have watched and followed tutorials on youtube but I still feel like I must be missing something crucial and I don't know what.

I get the models from huggingface. Where do you see these recommended settings? I'm lost here.
