What does "Stable Diffusion Checkpoints to cache in RAM" do?

See title: Exactly which checkpoints are cached into RAM witht his option? Say for example that i specify "2" - which one would it cache?

Also, if they are not cached into RAM - where/how are they used when this is unchecked?

I'm using this option currently; It caches the most recent ones in RAM.

For example, I have it set to 2, and it allows me to swap between my two primary checkpoints instantly (sd1.4 and wd1.3). If I were to switch to a third checkpoint, it will cache that one and kick out the oldest checkpoint from memory.
