Looks like they're adding extension support? So rather than keep adding more and more features, you add an extension to customize your setup.

It's turned into an extention. To install it, you have to git clone it into the webui folder. just type cmd in explorer where the webui is then paste "git clone https://github.com/AUTOMATIC1111/stable-diffusion-webui-aesthetic-gradients extensions/aesthetic-gradients" in the cmd

it's easy.

1. install it with git clone https://github.com/AUTOMATIC1111/stable-diffusion-webui-aesthetic-gradients extensions/aesthetic-gradients
2. grab some aesthetic_embeddings from HERE
3. put files in ...\stable-diffusion-webui\extensions\aesthetic-gradients\aesthetic_embeddings
4. expand the dropdown item named "Open for Clip Aesthetic!" in the tab "txt2img"
5. select some "Aesthetic imgs embedding"
6. Try to repeat the examples to understand how it works.

You are correct in thinking that it didn't, because it didn't for a short while even if installing correctly, a bunch of new commits went up after it was split, either one or multiple of fixed
