bro what is sampling step?

my computer is about 20 secs when it generates image with about 25 steps
but when i increase it to about 80, it takesa bout 4 minutes

just wondering what is sampling step , is higher value good? or 25 step is better?

It is just what it seems to mean, the number of denoising steps to apply for generating the final image. Now, depending on other factors, this might not be the actual number used. Thus you get this non-linear performance hit after increasing it. For example, if you are in img2img mode, the actual number of steps is sampling steps * denoising strength. You will notice the most discrepancy when using an adaptive sampler like DPM adaptive. It will consider the sampling steps as the maximum number of steps to take and can stop way earlier.

There is a fix in the settings that forces the number of steps to be independent of denoising strength

Thank you. I did not really address your question, though. The main takeaway imho would be that, when you select N steps, you go from the starting image (noise if txt2img, or an existing image if img2img) to an unknown endpoint that will actually be the same, regardless of the number of steps. However, increasing the number of steps between start and finish results in more, smaller, steps, hence finer details in theory. BUT the difference is almost indistinguishable between 30 and 50 steps for practical purposes. Sometimes you want to go higher but that should stay exception, not rule. To save electicity bill and GC card and at least ;-)

Probably the best way to understand it is to watch it in action. Go into settings, and turn-on "Show image creation progress every N sampling steps." Set it to 5 or so, and watch. Huge changes in the first few steps, and finer results towards the end. Bear in mind, more is not always better. There are times when I prefer the output at step 20 over the output at step 35. LOL
