i am looking to buy new vga

i have gtx 1060 now 3gb vram

i want to buy budget vga

i see rtx 3060 has 12g vram dont know why but it has pretty big vram for its price,

whereas rtx 3070 has only 8gb, and 3080 only 12gb, rtx 3060 ti only has 8gb

so, pricewise, 3060 12gb looks good to me, what do you think and recommend???

is vram size really that important????? does it affect speed as well? or only imge size???? everhbody say vram size is most important but why???

most vram, the better, simple as that, this is because the generation needs a lot of data to be processed by the graphic card and that data is stored on the vram, the 3060 is just fast enough, you don't need a monster gpu, for example the jump from the 3090 to 4090 in gaming is high, but in AI generation it is not, at least not for the price. i don't recommend 8 vram or less for AI generation. you can use optimizations to cut vram but this makes slower the generation.

On that subject, I actually read something like 50% better from 3090 to 4090 in generation speed is stable diffusion?
Which is pretty nice, though yeah the 4090 is an expensive gpu indeed.

not true at all it is like 30% faster, almost 40% in the best scenarios, however the price is the DOUBLE. so of course, not worth at all. i mean the difference of a normal 512x512 generation is like 3 seconds LOL, this can be significant in video generation but in image generation even if you do a bunch of images, nah.

Maybe in the next drivers/CUDA versions/optimisations it'll get better, the thing is a monster compared to the already monstrous 3090, so 30% is kinda sad...

I am using rtx3060 for generation and training. When using the NAI model (animefull-final-pruned), VRAM is almost always 70-80% occupied. The maximum image resolution that I could get is 1280x1280, and periodically getting out of memory. More resolution could not be obtained (--medvram option was not used)

I have a 12gb card (though not the 3060) - I manage 1920x1088 without any of the low ram options enabled. TBH I have no idea how either because I used to need them switched on, the only thing I changed was enabling xformers and using WSL ubuntu instead of windows.

I upgraded from the 1060 3gb to a 3060 12gb and am very happy with it. Higher cards will be faster, but the 12gb of vram has come in very useful for stuff like textual inversion, so it feels like you'd need to jump to a 3080 12gb for the same benefit. It also doesn't need such a big power supply and number of cables as higher cards.
