In img2img preserve a mask

When you generate images in img2img, could you create a mask that protected the part you wanted?
not replace as inpainting, preserve

choose inpainting and then switch from "inpaint masked" to "inpaint not masked" will give you exactly that. or am I misunderstanding something here ? ^^
