Size of stable diffusion directory

Not understanding precisely how this software works, is it normal for the size of the stable diffusion web gui folder to grow larger over time? Is this a normal function of the process when using the software, or is it possible to limit the footprint it uses?

That's normal, the initial download is very small and doesn't include any of the large files that make the magic happen. Once you run the UI and start getting extensions and things then you'll end up with a ton of different repos and models in your folder and it can get pretty big in a hurry.

Hi, thanks! Is it possible to set any limit on footprint? I’m okay if it grows to 20 gigabytes or thereabouts, however I may have to put a stop to it if it gets past 30.

On first launch and through normal usage the webui folder should be around 5-6GB. This goes in the venv and repositories folder
It also downloads ~9GB into your C:\Users\[user]\.cache folder.
These are the like models and dependencies you'll need to run the app.

The things that may grow the webui folder file size is models folder, naturally, if you are downloading models to use.
outputs folder is where images will go if you have in settings to save all images (I think it's enabled by default).
Images will go to wherever you set your PC's temp folder. You can change the location of this temp folder in webui settings and also tell it to clear out the folder with "Cleanup non-default temporary directory when starting webui" setting.
If you're using extensions, some of them may take up a lot of space in the extensions folder if the developer likes using lots of images in their extension. These images also enter the temp folder.

Aside from that I don't think anything else will grow the file size significantly over time.

Thanks so much, this is very helpful. I thought perhaps some of the files needed to generate images would grow indefinitely, the more you use the software. The entire directory has grown to about 12 GB, but so long as it stays below 20, it’s fine.
