Sampling steps changes the picture now?

Up until now, it seemed like the sampling steps only improved the quality of the image. However, now it substantially changes the image. (In 20 steps I have someone pointing a gun at the camera, at 75 it's over the shoulder, at 150 it's off to the side).

Is that intentional? If so, how do you draft items and then choose to enhance the quality?

how is that different then from a few weeks ago repo (and how can I restore)? it didn't used to do this

This is how it has always been when using ancestral samplers. It's possible that you're using a different sampler now compared to before. The current most popular non-ancestral sampler is DPM++ 2M Karras.
