Categorization: saved items disappear

• I am on the latest ActivityWatch version.
• I have searched the issues of this repo and believe that this is not a duplicate.

• OS name and version: Windows 10
• ActivityWatch version: Version: v0.13.2

Describe the bug

After creating lots of categories and saving frequently and refreshing the dashboard and seeing them update, at one point even one of the original default ones disappeared.

To Reproduce

I'm not sure yet if its random or not. I tried looking into the logs and couldn't see evidence of the changes.

Expected behavior

I'd expect categories not to disappear.

For reference, ActivityWatch/aw-webui#755 (merged Feb 2026) fixed a bug where duplicate category names could cause categories to appear to disappear when edited. If you're still experiencing this on a recent build, please reopen with reproduction steps.
