Move to bleak?

Hi Adam,

I have two Danfos Eco that are very far apart. My RPi is stuck in the middle, but I keep having connection problems: If one Danfos eco is unavailable, the bluepy_helper crashes and causes 100% CPU load on one core. The only thing I've found to counter this is a shell script that runs every minute and restarts the service. 😳 I don't think that's a good solution 🤔
Hence my question: Would it be possible to replace bluepy with bleak or another more modern library?

Thank you for your message! As far as I remember, I started development of libetrv with the bleak library, but it was very unstable and was missing some crucial functionality, so I had to switch to bluepy.

I currently don't have a dev setup to perform such modifications, but please take a try. I would be happy to merge such changes.

Just FYI @cg-ite, I had the same problem with RPi and an unreachable BLE device. My workaround was to buy a cheap $20 BLE USB dongle with actual screw-in antenna. Then I switched bluetooth stack to use hci1 instead of built-in hci0 RPi Bluetooth interface. And all of the sudden the BLE device I wasn't able to reach is all well and sending data.

I know this is not a solution to your problem but RPi's internal BT antenna could be replaced with something that performs much better for cheap.

I also suspected it was the Bluetooth hardware. I have a cheap LogiLink dongle for my RPi.
When I tested it with my Linux laptop, I had a very good connection via the built-in Bluetooth. On my Win 10 computer with the Logilink adapter, the script froze when the PIN was sent. I must have bricked one thermostat in that state 😳😕 It doesn't display anything anymore...
I'll buy an adapter with an antenna. Maybe that will help.

I totally forgot to upload my changes to my repo: https://github.com/cg-ite/libetrv Here you can find a bleak version. But I'm not sure if I used the right UUIDs.
I currently have two Bluetooth adapters: a LogiLink BT00037 (chipset: CSR/BC8510) and a LogiLink BT0067 (chipset: RTL8761BW). With the first adapter, the EVTR service crashes when it can no longer reach the thermostat in the living room. With the second, it always finds it, but it's causing problems with my ThermoPro TP357S thermometers. Then the Bluetooth dongle is probably disconnected and can't be reset because of the chipset.

I'll do some tests in the next few days. I'm not satisfied yet.
