How do I update without losing my setup?

Running AdGuardHome on my Mac Mini.

I've tried the 'Update Now' that appears at the top of the screen, but it always fails and breaks my install.
Whenever a new version releases, what's the best way to update? Just download the latest exe and drop it into my AdGuard dir? Is that the only file I need to replace?
