Official AdoptOpenJDK DockerHub images?

Just wondering if, now that there are some TCK certified builds being produced by AdoptOpenJDK, it makes sense to create some "Official" DockerHub images from AdoptOpenJDK so that other official images can build upon them?

@mstoodle Agreed. Ideally we have to get to a point where both the hotspot and openj9 images are official and binaries come from Adopt. But given the 1. TCK certification 2. Distro openjdk builds 3. Lack of native Alpine support, this is not going to happen anytime soon. However this should not prevent us from starting with making the OpenJ9 images as official ones. I'll check with tianon and yosifkit (docker maintainers on this as well)

We're still getting the builds TCK'd - hopefully in a week or so we can tackle this as well.

My main concern has been the stability of the processes of Docker image creation. If we are to make it "official", docker would have an expectation that they dont get into issues while building these images. So that translates to these 3 things

1. Stable Dockerfiles
2. Stable API that pulls the tarballs
3. tarballs that can be consistently downloaded.
   Currently we are yet to have ten consecutive days of success building docker images in our jenkins build process. This is the minimum criteria I feel, before we are able to put up a proposal for official images. See this and this for the history of our builds. That said, I think we are very close to hitting the criteria as we have now ironed out a number of issues with the process over the last few months.

hey guys, just wanted to bump up this issue again. =)

Our Open Liberty and WebSphere Liberty images are eagerly waiting for the AdoptOpenJDK + OpenJ9 images to become official so that we can have an optimal Java 11 Docker image.

Any updates?

This was discussed in the build call last week and the consensus was that our build/docker/api infra is now ready for putting out a official request. There is a minor build issue that needs to be sorted (having a adopt build time stamp/version for the tar ball), but that should not prevent us from putting out the request.

We do have the tricky question of what to name these images though

1. adoptopenjdk-openj9 / adoptopenjdk-hotspot
2. adoptopenjdk-openjdk-openj9 / adoptopenjdk-openjdk-hotspot
3. openjdk-openj9 / openjdk-hotspot
4. openj9 / hotspot
5. Any other ?
