🐛 Bug: Windows Update Enabler Doesn't Work

Description

I just upgraded to Windows 11 24H2 OS Build (26100.1742) from Windows 10.

And I wanted to bring back Windows 10 Start Menu Look and found an app that can do that. But I also found out that Windows Updates may disrupt that "Windows 10 Start Menu Look Alike" App.

So... I tried to find how to pause Windows Update for a long period of time, and I found your app. And watch the tutorial from "Britec", and I tried your "Disable Update" feature, it does make my Windows 11 Updates Menu like corrupted or something like what "Britec" showed to me.

But then Britec tried to "Enable Update" and so did I. But unluckily my Windows Update Menu still looks like corrupted or something like in the Scr Shot.

I already did the registry backup, or I may say that I followed every step that "Britec" did.

Steps To Reproduce

• I did Registry Backup
• I also did telemetry removal
• I did "Disable Update"
• Last, I did "Enable Update"

The "something went wrong" error means that one of your update services are not enabled. It cannot figure out how to update because for some reason, it couldn't restart one of the services.

If you go to Windows Start Menu => Run, type Services.msc.

You need to go through your list of services, and to re-enable updates, you need to make sure the following are Running:

Microsoft Update Health Service|uhssvc"
Update Orchestrator Service|UsoSvc"
Windows Update Medic Service|WaaSMedicSvc"
Windows Update Service|wuauserv"

The left value is the friendly name of the service, the right side name is the service name.

Try to find each one in your services.msc list and force them to the Running state. If there's an issue with one starting, it'll tell you when you try to start it up.

Sometimes a restart will fix this, sometimes it's a permission issue with the user you're running Windows as.

The registry patches are the simple form of disabling Windows Update, the batch files are extremely aggressive, and ensure that updates cannot be automatically re-enabled by Windows themself, but the downside is that services can mess up depending on the permissions on the system.

You can also try to re-enable them using the Command Prompt (running with Administrative permissions)

sc config UsoSvc start= auto
net start UsoSvc

sc config WaaSMedicSvc start= auto
net start WaaSMedicSvc 

sc config wuauserv start= auto
net start wuauserv

Make sure after you get them all enabled, close the Windows update window and re-open it. Microsoft does not automatically refresh that Window. It'll continue to say "Something went wrong" until you get them enabled and completely re-open the window fresh.

If there is an issue, and you cannot get the services started; reboot into safe mode and re-enable all four services.
