Image conversion doesn't preserve transparency.

Both avif and webp support transparency, yet during the converter drops it for both giving instead black (avif) or white (webp) background to the previously transparent images.

Have you tried different cwebp args? For webp, by default we have "-blend_alpha", "0xffffff",. Try replacing those with -alpha_q N.

For ffmpeg args I don't know what causes this.

Sorry, forgot to answer there. This worked for webp, I've tried to play around with some options for avif that I've found online but I couldn't make it work.

I had no luck making this work. I wanna convert PNGs to webp but retain transparency whenever present.

    Specify the compression factor for alpha compression between 0 and 100. Lossless compression of alpha is achieved using a value of 100, while the lower values result in a lossy compression. The default is 100.

so this should work:

I am not very familiar with programming but when I was going through the docs, it was initially linked to a unix man page which didn't seem to have the alpha feature. So I got quite confused. I just saw that you have updated the docs link. Thanks!!
