You can import this CSS snippet to disable images:

.tag-pane-empty::before, .bookmarks-pane-empty::before, .pane-empty::before, .search-empty-state::before{
    display: none;
}

BTW, just curious, where was the theme getting the image from?

It is an SVG I created, embedded in the CSS theme file to be displayed as a background.
