I suggest, that the rigctl server handles the "transmit" command (T 1 / T 0) in the following way:
If T 1 is received mute all audio sinks or generally mute the output
On T 0 unmute.
Background: If you use the SDR as a secondary receiver while working with the main TRX in transmit mode it should be avoided to have the audio of the SDR on. It is delayed by a certain amount of time and that really confuses.
