Description
One of the things I have missed using e-Bibles is that I never really feel like I 'know' it. In paper bibles you know exactly where verses are based on their specific location on the page (eg top right) or you recognise a page by how it is highlighted. e-Bibles have none of these touch points. So this suggestion is a way to bring that to AB along with a few other benefits.
The idea is to have a bar down the side that shows a set number of verses. In the example below it is about 25 (about one page of a paper Bible). There is a big indicator on the bar showing the current verse. So as you scroll through the verses the indicator gives you a sense of where you are in that section.
The indicators can also work as verse navigation. Click on an indicator to jump directly to that verse. One could also swipe up or down on the indicators to move to the next 25 verses - just like turning a page.
I think I would want to show the equivalent of 2 paper pages. That still looks ok:
One of the advantages that comes with this is the ability to show where bookmarks are. I often want to see how an idea is being used in the section. Bookmarks are perfect for this but you can only see 4 verses on a phone screen so very difficult to get that information. Setting the colours of the verse indicators will let you see that info nicely.
It could also be used as a full book navigation tool. And again, a great way to see how ideas are being used across a large number of verses.
Has anyone seen something like this? Do you think it could be helpful?
