Fading text when tab not visible

So I had the tab open and went to another tab for about 2 minutes and came back to this. Then after about 30 seconds the bulk of the text faded back to normal. I would be concerned with this being left in a separate tab over night, or even for a week. Could build up memory pretty fast, not to mention the CPU when attempting to do a CSS transition on opacity with hundreds of thousands of layered elements.

That's just a browser thing. The engine stops playing animations when you switch away to save resources. Safari does that for me. I'm sure others do too. A solution is to just not leave it open. If your browser uses a lot of resources and slows down, I think it's your responsibility to close down any tabs you're not using.

Since you mention garbage collection, do you happen to know of a way to clear it out?

Instead of doing a 1 sec interval, have it go off of something async based on messages sent or received.

We could fix this by having javascript check the system clock with a variable for the time from the previous step so something like:

var prevDate = new Date()
var prevTime = date.getSeconds()
var currentDate = new Date()
var currentTime = currentDate.getSeconds()

//Update the current time
currentDate = new Date()
currentTime = currentDate.getSeconds()

}
else
{

I kinda like the bug because it helps me catch up on what I missed if I look away for a few seconds. Debating whether or not I should fix.
