Does compatibility API support JSON schema?

I found a statement in the README of the compatibility API that has caught my interest:

We expect only Avro schemas are supported

An application developed in our company uses JSON schema to validate Kafka messages with the Confluent Serde that connects to the compatibility API. The application isn't in production yet but from what I've heard it seems to work fine. At a first glance the statement in the README is contradicting to what we experience, so I'm a bit confused. Before our application is production ready, I'd like to clarify this.

What exactly does this statement mean? Does it mean that other formats than Avro won't work correctly? Or rather they could work correctly but it's not tested?

Eric Wittmann: Oh my. That's an old file (and one I didn't realize we even had). Please disregard. The ccompat api definitely supports JSON schema and protobuf.Eric Wittmann: Initially the confluent schema registry only supported Avro. I'm sure that was a note from the original implementaiton of ccompat.
