Special characters (ÅÄÖ)

I'm having troubles with special characters (like the swedish åäö,ÅÄÖ)
It just shows up as a ? in my message.
Example "Larmet har gått!" shows as "Larmet har g?tt!"
I've been trying with solutions within arduino code to convert it but it dosent help. Seems like the issue is somewhere else.
