Add support for Raspberry Pi's

I tried using the Signal CLI on a Raspberry Pi5 to send snapshots from a surveillance camera to myself.

Unfortunately, it only works with a much older version of the Signal CLI that cannot send images.

Perhaps it would be possible to further develop the Signal CLI so that it can also be easily used on Arm computers.

@nocluewhatido: Which version/build exactly did you try (with, without success)? What error message did you receive with the newer version that didn't work for you, or what kind of problem did you encounter?

According to the guide, Signal CLI version 0.12.8 is required because: “Whilst there are instructions on the GitHub site of how to install signal-cli we have to use an older version of the software because the current verion of Raspian doesn’t use Java Runtime Environment 21, only 17. ”

I also got it to work and was able to send text messages to my cell phone from the Pi.

Unfortunately, I couldn't attach any images to the message.

@nocluewhatido: I'm not using Raspberry Pi OS/Raspbian; like for Debian Bookworm (on which the latest version of Raspberry Pi OS is based), there seem to be a number of third-party repositories for JRE21, though.
Alternatively, you might want to have a look at the signal-cli wiki which also lists a number of standalone binaries that should run on the Pi5 under Raspberry Pi OS as well. (As usual, remember to back up your configuration before trying this, because newer versions of signal-cli will modify it and you can't simply switch back afterwards if need be.)

I want to set it up on a RPi4 and I'd like to know if you had success even if I'm not using the RPi5.

Unfortunately, no. I switched to a different solution that is easier to set up for me.

Hey @nocluewhatido.

I randomly saw your reply yesterday because I did not receive a notification. Today I went ahead and tried to compile the native binary for aarch64 with GLIBC 2.41.

After a little bit of trial and error since it's not the same as compiling for amd64, I made it work.

I have successfully compiled for ARM64 with GLIBC 2.41. If you don't know what that means exactly, it means that if you are running latest Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit) with codename Trixie (Debian 13) and upwards, with GLIBC 2.41 and upwards, you are able to run signal-cli v0.13.21.

To check you can run these 2 commands:

• This should show Release: 13 or higher.

$ lsb_release -r

• This should show glibc 2.41 or higher.

$ getconf GNU_LIBC_VERSION
