Journal paper on solar multiplot

@YvesMSaintDrenan I'm seeing more and more interest in the multiplot, even some usage in papers. Should we try and get the ball rolling on writing a journal article on the multiplot? Do you have any plans for any more changes?

Particularly, I think it'd be great to document the existing plots and what each of their strengths are (i.e., what specific errors can be detected). Also, it would be nice with a discussion on the plots that we have investigated but chosen not to include. We've had a long learning process and I think we have a lot of important lessons to teach :)

Here's a list of the current plots that you have in your most recent version:

Times series plots (Left)

• Irradiance vs time (x3)
• Heat map of irradiance with sunset/sunrise- hour vs. date (x3)
• Diffuse fraction vs. time
• GHI/GHI_calc vs. time

Scatter plots with QC limits (Center)

• Irradiance vs. TOA with (x3)
• GHI_calc vs. GHI (closure)
• DIF/GHI vs. zenith angle (K-space)
• DNI/TOANI vs. GHI/TOA (K-space)
• DIF/GHI vs. GHI/TOA (K-space)
• GHI/GHI_calc ratio vs. zenith

Others (Right)

• Histogram as function of GHI/TOA (x3)
• Shadow analysis - heat map, elevation vs. zenith (2x)

Plots no longer included from SWC paper

• GHI AM/PM vs. azimuth plot
• Clearsky index (GHI/GHI_clear)
• DNI_meas-DNI_calc vs. azimuth

I know that you also had some other planar tests in the past and probably have investigated many other plots.

Hi @AdamRJensen, thanks for the initiative ! I fully agree with you and was thinking about describing the catalog of usual cases I presented during the BSRN meeting in this future paper. What do you think? You have surely interesting cases to add, don't you?
