can Harper be installed as a desktop app like Grammarly?

Hi, as of the moment, Harper doesn't have a desktop app that can be installed. Though, we do have integrations with apps like Obsidian and browsers, Firefox and Chrome, via extensions/plugins. If having a desktop app is important for you, you can file an issue requesting for it, though no promises that it'll be implemented any time soon.

Actually, I've heard reports that @lukasmwerner was working on something like this. What has he learned, I wonder?

I had some initial good bursts of progress. Unfortunately, I got quite swamped. I'm glad this has come up again as a reminder that this is still a need.

My initial work was on the macOS side, and not the Windows side as I don't really use Windows. The first parts I had gotten were the ability to get any focused text field. However, at the time there was no good harper-ffi implementation yet, and my attempts at using harper-wasm didn't get very far. If I get fully stuck I plan on posting my work on GitHub and publishing a full write-up on where I got and what I got stuck on so that others don't need to replicate as much work.
