Description
When Jetpack Related Posts selects thumbnails, it scans post content for images when no Featured Image is set. Currently, there's no way to exclude specific images from this detection.
Posts contain:
- A QR code image (essential, must remain first in content)
- An embedded YouTube video
- Current behaviour: Related Posts uses the QR code as the thumbnail because it's the first image detected.
Expected behaviour: Related Posts to skip the QR code and use the YouTube video thumbnail instead (which it does correctly when no image is present).
Attempted Solutions
- Featured Image from URL (FIFU) plugin – doesn't integrate with Related Posts
- No built-in Jetpack option exists to exclude images
Suggested Implementation from HE One of:
- A CSS class (e.g.,
jetpack-ignore-thumbnail) that marks images to skip - A filter to exclude images by URL pattern or class
- An option to prioritise video embed thumbnails over content images
