I'm running into this build error on linux, but not on windows. Can anyone point in right direction on this one?

I'm getting the same error trying to build Avalonia UI project on Ubuntu.
Funny enough, there is no such problem when I run the same codebase on windows

The most likely cause is hardcoded \ characters in paths somewhere in your app.

1. you run the app
2. a file or dir with \ in its name gets created
3. MSBuild breaks down completely and is unable to resolve wildcards anymore

Try running find .|grep '\\' from your repo root.

This was exactly the case.
The very first time vscode runs the app successfully, but making it it creates the folder, specific to the app, that has the properties you described.

Your comment pointed my attention to the work undone that prevents my app from being fully cross-platform.
