I keep getting email about the below from Microsoft, I am running an old stable version of this repo where it uses api_version 2022-12-01, do I need to change this to the latest api_version or this will still work as it is still supported version ?

We recently let you know that some older API versions would be retired on 2 April 2024. However, in response to customer feedback, we're extending the retirement date for these API versions to 1 July 2024:

Per the emails, you should try to switch over to a newer version as soon as possible, to avoid any issues when old versions are turned off. The app currently uses version "2024-03-01-preview". Do you know if your version of the app code is using the old completion API, or if it's using the chat completion API? If it's using chat completions, then I think it shouldn't be an issue to upgrade to a new version.

On 11 December 2024, for Azure OpenAI deployments that are set to Auto-update by default and that use gpt-4o version 2024-05-13, we’ll begin updating them to use version 2024-08-06. The update will be completed within two weeks of that date.

Because version 2024-08-06 offers improved capabilities, you may notice some changes in the model behavior and compatibility after the upgrade.

If you have deployments that are set to Upgrade when expired or if this setting is blank, we recommend changing them to Auto-update by default to ensure you’re always using the latest capabilities. Learn how to see and adjust these settings.

Recommended action

WTest your applications and workflows that use gpt-4o version 2024-05-13 and that are set to Auto-update to default before 11 December 2024 to ensure they’ll continue working as expected after the update to version 2024-08-06. Then, prepare for any changes in model behavior or compatibility.

Can we switch to AZURE_OPENAI_API_VERSION="2024-08-06" from "2024-03-01-preview" safe?

2024-08-06 is the model version, which is distinct from the API version.
The current stable API version is listed here:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/openai/api-version-deprecation#latest-ga-api-release

I sent a PR to update the API version, I'll look into model version next. We've been debating whether to set our deployments to auto-upgrade or not.
