Do we have a general guidance to change the prompt?

Expected/desired behavior

I have tried to upload some Chinese doc for reference, but it cannot always retrieve the right document and using Chinese to reply, I think the main reason is because the prompts, I'm wondering do we have any guidance to alter the prompt to better support other language or tuning the application?

Hm, did you already bring in the recent improvements from @ks6088ts and apply the suggestions in the readme from that? #780

I think you have to set the language settings as follows (ref. #780 )

# please set to your language settings(NOTE: Following example is Japanese case)
azd env set AZURE_SEARCH_QUERY_LANGUAGE ja-jp
azd env set AZURE_SEARCH_QUERY_SPELLER none
azd env set AZURE_SEARCH_ANALYZER_NAME ja.lucene

In addition, if you want to change system message to fit your needs, update prompts hardcoded in chatreadretrieveread.py and retrievethenread.py.

I think this is the better way, thanks for the suggestion, I have changed all the prompt directly in retrievethenread.py and /app/approaches/retrievethenread.py

Hi! Since this was filed, there is first-class non‑English support and prompts are externalized into prompty files. You can customize the prompts under app/backend/approaches/prompts (e.g., chat_query_rewrite.prompty) and set AZURE_SEARCH_QUERY_LANGUAGE/… as described in docs/customization.md and deploy_existing.md.

Given that and the lack of recent activity, I’m going to close this. If you still need guidance, please open a new issue with your language, analyzer/speller settings, and any prompt changes you tried so I can help with specifics.
