ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'azure' on ./scripts/prepdocs.ps1

Minimal steps to reproduce

I just did azd up and also tried with .\scripts\prepdocs.ps1 and i am not able to upload my documents and created indexes. It gives me error: ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'azure' (Screenshot added: I just called prepdocs.ps1

Expected/desired behavior

It should have uploaded documents on cloud

Windows 7, 8 or 10. Linux (which distribution). macOS (Yosemite? El Capitan? Sierra?)

I am facing the same issue when running python prepdocs.py inside the scripts folder.

I just had the same issue. It turns out that I was using an older version of Python. I had downloaded and installed 3.11, but the OS was still finding 3.8. As soon as I deleted 3.8 from "Apps", the command prompt immediately identified 3.11 after I ran "python --version". When I went through the install again, I did not get the error.

Thanks for reporting this. I'm going to close the issue because this error consistently stems from environment problems (using an unsupported Python interpreter or a failed install in the repo-created .venv) and there are established fixes: use Python 3.11/3.12/3.13, delete and let scripts recreate .venv, run pip install -r app/backend/requirements.txt inside the venv, and check pip output for build failures.

If you still see the error after trying those steps, please open a new issue with your Python version, OS, full command output and pip logs and I’ll take another look.
