az acr login fails with ValueError on az-cli 2.75.0

Describe the bug

When using the latest Azure CLI (az-cli==2.75.0) on a newly deployed Linux Azure Machine Learning Workspace Compute Instance (25.07.12) to log in to Azure Container Registry, the following error occurs:

ValueError: API version 2025-03-01-preview does not have operation group 'registries'

Additional context

The same workflow works on az-cli==2.64.0 in Compute Instance Linux 24.12.31
Likely related to dependency or SDK/API version mismatch in the 2.75.0 release.
Could be a breaking change introduced in the new CLI release.

2.75.0 is not the latest Azure CLI(2.76.0).

Possible solution (Extracted from existing issue, might be incorrect; please verify carefully)

Solution 1:

Check the version of azure-mgmt-containerregistry installed in your environment by running pip show azure-mgmt-containerregistry. If the version is not compatible with the Azure CLI, install the correct version using pip install azure-mgmt-containerregistry==3.0.0rc15.

Solution 2:

Uninstall the current version of azure-mgmt-containerregistry and install a more up-to-date version. For example, uninstall azure-mgmt-containerregistry 8.0.0b1 and install 3.0.0rc16 using pip install 'azure-mgmt-containerregistry==3.0.0rc16'.

Solution 3:

Ensure that the Azure CLI is installed using the official Microsoft repository. If you installed the CLI from another source, remove it and follow the official installation instructions to install the CLI from the Microsoft repository.
