This is most likely the final release in the 2.x line.

NOTE: If you are experiencing issues allocating Ubuntu 16.04-LTS (such as seemingly infinite waiting for start task or start task failures) or start task failures on CentOS 7.3 on N-series VMs, then you should upgrade to this release. Issues in the underlying operating system updates have caused intermittent failures for provisioning these host operating systems. You may now specify a platform_image:version to lock your host operating system to a certain known version with this release.

Major new features in 2.9.2 since 2.8.x:

  • Autoscale support with tunable scenario-based automation
  • Autopool support
  • Task factory support
  • Recurring job support (job schedules)
  • Job live/hot migration support
  • CentOS-HPC 7.3 support for STANDARD_NC24R nodes with both Infiniband/RDMA and GPUs
  • Summary statistics with pool stats and jobs stats
  • Azure function/app service site extension is now automatically created for each tagged release

This release also includes Jupyter Notebooks for Deep Learning on Batch Shipyard. Thanks to @msalvaris and @thdeltei for helping out with this contribution.

  • CNTK on Infiniband+GPUs

This release completes the 2.9.0 Milestone. Note that release 2.9.0 was removed due to various build issues with site extensions used for Azure Function integration. It is recommended to upgrade to this version or later.

Major new features in 2.8.0:

  • Support for custom images, please see the pool configuration doc and custom image guide for more information
  • Support Mac OS X and Windows Subsystem for Linux installations via install.sh
  • Automated Nvidia driver install for NV-series VMs
  • Support for CentOS 7.3 NC/NV gpu pools
  • Docker engine update to 17.06 for most host OSes

This release also has multiple improvements to deal with very large deployments that use a single image registry with peer-to-peer image replication disabled. Thanks to @mkiernan for helping test this scenario.
