It is hard to know what mobs can be in animal pen to add to ban list. It would be nice if there is some comment or it is handled by a entity_types tag in datapack. So it is easier to figure out. Thanks

Vanilla animal list you can get from https://minecraft.wiki/w/Animal
It has the list of animals.

However, if you add modded animals, there is nothing I could do. It is impossible for me to know all custom animals.

The comment functionality in config does not support dynamic update based on animal count. So I do not think it is possible for me to add.

There are 2 reasons why I do not want to add allow-list with entity_types tag:

1. it would automatically mark that all modded animals would be blocked from picking up, and would require datapack to add them. Not a huge issue, but could be annoying, especially if you have a lot of animals (like alex mod)
2. allow-list would indicate that you should be able to add any entity in the list. However, that goes against how and why mod was created, and what function it provides. It was created to reduce lag from free-roaming animals, and it does not make sense to allow picking up hostile mobs or arrows/boats.

However, after a bit of thinking, I may introduce your request about tag. It will not come sometime soon, but will be part of some code rewrite.

I implemented 3 new entity tags:

• animal_pen:animal_cage_pickable – Mobs that can be picked up by Animal Cage.
  

• animal_pen:bird_catcher_pickable – Mobs that can be picked up by Bird Catcher.
  

• animal_pen:water_mob_container_pickable – Mobs that can be picked up by Water Animal Container.
