Problem with manifold v2.4.5 / v3.0.1

In commit 0c539a0 you wrote "Back up manifold upgrade - looks like we're not ready for 3.0 yet": what is the problem exactly?
I'm trying to install BRL-CAD on FreeBSD, and while manifold v3.0.1 from @elalish compiles without error and all tests pass, the version v2.4.5 included in bext fails, because Thrust is not supported on FreeBSD, and it seems that it cannot be deactivated.

At the time there were performance and build issues with v3.0 that hadn't been resolved. They have been dealt with in the manifold3 branch and the manifold_update branch in bext, but since it is a fairly major change and we're trying to get a release finalized we're not wanting to introduce such a major change at the last minute.

I'd suggest trying the manifold3 BRL-CAD branch and see if that works for you - once the pending release is done one of the first things on my list is merging in the manifold3 branch changes.
