Hi everyone. I don't know if this poll will get enough attention. If you happen to find it, could you please give your opinion?
I had some problems with GitHub some time ago with them banning another of my accounts in a seemingly random way, and asking for phone number verification, which I obviously don't want to provide for privacy reasons.
I'm worried I might lose access to this account, and thus, this repository as well. It is an important reason that partly motivated the fact that I'm not as much invested in SAC as before. This, and the lack of free time of course. I don't want my work to be thrown away, and don't want your reports and kind words to see the same fate, obviously.
Another reason is that this project might not be "safe" hosted on GitHub, knowing it's 'grey area' of legality.
I'm wondering if most people would be okay to switch to a custom, self hosted Git website. This way, reduced tracking, and no enforcing of copyright or similar. No phone verification.
Obviously, this means having to create a new account for this project specifically which might drastically reduce contributions and reports (a lot of people already have an account on GitHub). This also involves me having to set up an anonymous, DMCA proof server that will be maintained and that should be able to withstand some attacks. Sadly, I believe this can only be reliably done by hosting it behind Cloudflare (for DDoS protection), which I'm not a fan of at all, but they seem to be the only one that don't care as much about DMCA and copyrighted stuff while giving DDoS protection.
Do you think it is a good idea, and would you create an account there to contribute or report stuff?
I would love to get your opinions. Feel free to share alternative ways to share code as well.
