After using cvfind to repair an existing Hugin project, a new geometric alignment is needed #5

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Take existing hugin project and use cvfind to create a new version where control points / pairs may have been removed.
  2. In Hugin, attempt to perform geometric optimization
  3. Observe that some tiles, usually the anchors, are in unusual locations or oddly overlapped.
  4. Observe that the actual overlap is correct in the Control Point Viewer.

Cause:

This appears to be a Hugin issue triggered by the deletion or manipulation of control points for the anchor image. This issue can be reproduced manually by removing some of the "c nXXX Nxxx ..." entries in the .pto file. Its unclear why this would be problematic.

Workaround:

As a general rule, any time control points are manipulated in Hugin a new geometric optimization is needed. Prior to performing this optimization process, select all images, right click, and select Reset --> Reset positions as this seems to force Hugin to ignore the prior location of the anchor on the Hugin world sphere and re-assemble the tiles relative to it.

The optimize for Position, then optionally for other parameters as desired. The anchor tile will now be properly located in the panorama.
