missing AV1 D3D12VA encode support in your builds..

recently h264 and av1 d3d12va video encode support has been added..

sadly checking latest build as 5 december, h264 is supported (h264_d3d12va) but no av1 (missing av1_d3d12va):

testing with:

ffmpeg.exe -hwaccel d3d12va -y -hwaccel_output_format d3d12 -i c:\av1\input.mp4 -c:v av1_d3d12va -acodec aac output_d3d12va_av1.mp4

shows:

maybe requires updated DX12 video headers?
slightly related wine updated dx12 video headers for intra refresh support (for ffmpeg )

Yeah, mingw needs to add it first before any non-msvc builds can build it.

just overwrite d3d12video.h from DirectX-Headers to sysroot.

Yep fixing locally meanwhile would be good if possible to enable support..
Seems mingw imports d3d12video from wine headers from time to time and av1 encoder was added to wine header last week:

Also curious about state of intra refresh support in your build.. a simple run seems to accept the new inra refresh command line options but that also was added this week in wine header:

Inspecting a mingw mirror on github seems currenr d3d12video header is from wine 10.16 still..

It looks like they've been actively monitoring ffmpeg's requirements lately, but in order to enable the latest features in time for the future, it would be better to use DirectX-Headers directly instead of relying on mingw-w64. As far as I know, the builds here are not using mingw-w64 from git master, so that may be a bit of an extra wait.

yep should be better.. assuming no diff in generated headers from wine d3d12video.idl files vs DirectX-Headers or anyway that DIrectX-Headers are consumible by "rest of mingw stack" i.e. don't generate unexpected compilation issues on projects using it like ffmpeg..

The headers are explicitly installed from git, since their releases tend to be rather rare.
So whenever they merge it, it'll become available.

Ok.. please if not much work,can report on this thread when a daily ffmpeg build with updated headers supports AV1 encode?so I don't have to remember to check builds from time to time..

What exactly is the rush with it even? Every GPU vendor that supports it has its own API for encoding AV1 already.

no rush really.. sorry if that was the impression.. just that wanted to test the performance/stability of D3D12 AV1 encode vs other options (NVENC, Vulkan video) on an RTX Ada GPU on Windows..

In the end all APIs interface with the same hardware, so in theory performance and quality should be identical as long as you can dial in identical parameters for the hardware.

You can try this build, my device doesn't support hardware AV1 encoding so I'm not sure if it works.
