How to start my first program

First of all, the project is so great that I can't wait to start writing my python code, but I read the readme and I don't know how to get started, how do I debug? How can I get my python code file to run correctly? I haven't had similar experience before, can you upload a video showing how to get started? For me, it's too hard

Did you ‘pip install cad-pyrx’ and are you able to load RxLoader25.0.arx?
It’s best to add RxLoader25.0.arx you your startup suite so it’s always loaded

Make a working directory where you can play with samples and stuff. If you don’t want to check out the repository, you can just download the samples.

From PySamples/PyAx/axLine.py download or copy/paste the code into a file called axLine.py

In AutoCAD, type pyload, then navigate to your new axLine.py, so its loaded.
Then type axLine at the AutoCAD command prompt

I did it!!! Are you a genius? And so it goes! But how do I debug it? Also, does the code have to rely on the python environment? If my code is used by others, will they have to install python as well?

Assuming you’re using VSCode for your editor. You first need to setup your VSCode configuration

There’s a copy of my settings here:

Next you will need to start the listener; there’s a sample here:
PySamples/testPyRxDebug.py

in this sample,

• first pyload testPyRxDebug.py, then start the listener with the sample command pystartdebug
• place a break point inside PyRxCmd_doit, near db = Db.curDb()
• in VSCode, start debugging
• back in AutoCAD run the command ‘doit’

And the break point should hit. Note, debugging is on for the session. As a side effect you can edit your code, use the pyreload command to reload your module, and continue debugging

in the next release, there will be a new command PYDEBUG that will replace the need to use pystartdebug

Okay, I can’t reproduce it, but I will improve the error message so it shows to the conflicting paths, hopefully this will shed light on the issue.

I compare the path from what’s used in the pyload command, with the path python sees (PyModule_GetFilename)

if it’s not the same path, then there’s an issue. for example, if I have a file named test, there’s a conflict

maybe you have uncovered a side effect. In the meantime, cad-pyrx 2.2.4 has been published on pipy, which has a new command “PYDEBUG” that will start the listener

Hard to say for certain, I’ll try to make a release before the weekend. You can try to investigate from the python side I.e.

you can build a redistributable package. I have not tried it yet, but it should work

Concept, use the embeddable package (https://www.python.org/downloads/windows/) it’s a .ZIP file with a barebones Python package.
You would then place pyrx, wx and the modules that you need references to, i.e. openpyxl

From there you would make a .bundle package as described here
