As part of the larger revamp of the documentation I am currently reviewing the Google Earth Engine tutorial.
However, I am wondering how much value the tutorial and the functions it showcases are adding in general. The functionalities are available in GEE itself, and any CLIMADA user who wants to use these climada.util functions would have to install the GEE API in their CLIMADA environment. There also isn't any function that converts data from GEE to CLIMADA objects, so the overall utility of having this in the core is unclear to me. One could just use GEE for the functionalities shown in the tutorial and then read the resulting rasters as CLIMADA objects (which is a step one would have to do now anyways).
My suggestion short: The functions don't add any interoperability between GEE and CLIMADA in my view, why not make climada.util leaner by removing them? If we want to retain the information in the tutorial for future GEE users in the group, the WCR wiki would be a better home for this. For everyone else, the GEE documentation itself should suffice.
How do others see this? Should we make the effort to maintain this further or not?
