Property ordering test

I'd like to lint my css to keep with property ordering standards, for example:

• idiomatic-css
• @mdo's style guide
• a custom configuration

I can see the practical usage in such a feature. Maybe it could be more generically implemented as being able to check against some sort of formatting pattern? Also, be careful when using the word "standards". They are not.

@patrickkettner: Unfortunately, csscomb is written in PHP—it'd be great to keep CSS lint implemented using only the languages that are already in use. (… and, PHP… icky!)

Last night I used twitter recess in grunt (grunt-recess), which can be used to lint property ordering… its working well, I'm happy.

… still, it'd be great to get all css linting into a canonical library

We're talking about a code style linter — so it should definitely be configuration driven. (with a solid default)

RECESS also provides property reordering.

TBH, automating ordering that isn't alphabetical feels almost like an anti-pattern, given that it involves manually maintaining a subjective order of properties and adjusting it every time something new comes along.

@necolas: As I mentioned, I gave grunt-recess a swing, and I'm pretty happy with it.

we thought about doing something like that -- generally we group properties
into three logical groups (though we are currently questioning the value of
that since we don't have 100s of properties per selector).
