Media-Scanner web frontend

I would like to have a front end for media scanner that allows browsing the library and rescanning particular folders along with editing metadata. Eventually it could add metadata to define captions presence in the file and add TV series metatada that is required for generating program guides such as episode descriptions, series information, etc. This would involve both scanning and editing metadata in or alongside files.

Should this be built on top of the existing scanner, or as a separate client? Having a served web gui on the scanner service would also allow for extending the http interfaces along with providing the ability to send commands directly without having to type in what is often a really busy command window.

Please let me know what you think of this idea.

I think this would be best as a separate tool.

I don't think it belongs here in this relatively simple tool, especially as that functionality would only be relevant to a subset of users (I have no idea how small, I have no experience in the mentioned areas), and could easily become rather complex.

You could easily use the http api provided by this tool for the listing of media as found on disk and retrieving thumbnails, but I dont think adding more to this (other than expanding the metadata/previews provided) is the way to go.

Do you see adding the ability to write metadata based on an http command as being something worth including in this tool?
