Success Criterion 3.1.1 Language of Page
(Level A)
The default human language of each Web page can be programmatically determined.
Success Criterion 3.1.2 Language of Parts
(Level AA)
The human language of each passage or phrase in the content can be programmatically determined except for proper names, technical terms, words of indeterminate language, and words or phrases that have become part of the vernacular of the immediately surrounding text.
Current State of ELMCIP
The human language is not indicated for the entire webpage, nor is a change in human language (most prominent in “abstract (original language)) indicated in the html.
Proposed changes to meet the success criteria
- Add
<html lang="en">to ELMCIP since the website is in English - Add indication of the language of “abstract (in original language)” in the corresponding language. Can this be done by linking the language indicated by the editor in the dropdown menu?
