Forest NV25 🦵 and NV26 🕐 support

NV25 Teep 🦵 and NV26 Tock 🕐 upgrade

Forest joins Lotus and Venus in supporting the NV25 upgrade. See the post for details regarding the new features brought to the network.

To keep Forest nodes running, the operators must upgrade Forest to supporting versions, as outlined in the timeline.

The timeline is subject to changes, and there will likely be non-mandatory releases. Depending on external factors, the mainnet release will likely arrive faster to give plenty of time for an update.

💻 Hardware requirements

The state migration for this upgrade is substantial and will require more time than usual. Depending on your hardware, the time to migrate the state will vary.

• calibnet: below 10s,
• mainnet: 6min - 20min.

ℹ️ The NV26 Tock upgrade won't require a state migration. This applies only for NV25.

To lower the time required for the state migration, you can prune the chain data before the upgrade. This is done by removing the $HOME/.local/share/forest/mainnet on Linux and importing the snapshot before the upgrade.

An alternative to the automatic state migration is downloading a snapshot from the ChainSafe snapshot service sometime after the upgrade (30m - 2h). Endpoints below:

This release also includes a few fixes, most notably a database migration speed up that used to give certain important people a massive headache. Forest Prometheus metrics have been cleaned and you can look them up in the documentation.

Forest v0.25.2 "Took" released! 🌲

🚨 This release introduces a fix upgrade for the calibration network scheduled for epoch 2_558_014, which corresponds to Mon 7 Apr 23:00:00 UTC 2025 (tomorrow!). See more details on the issue here. After the upgrade, the calibration network will still be considered NV26.

It also pushes back the NV25 Teep release for mainnet to 4_878_840 which corresponds to Mon 14 Apr 23:00:00 UTC 2025.
