Description
Hi everyone.
I’m opening this issue to clarify the current state of this project and set expectations for the future. This project began as a proof-of-concept for ARWo 2024, created by Anthony and myself (as Chalmers alumni) to gauge interest in a standardized LiDAR dataset for the Formula Student community.
Current Status
Despite significant interest and numerous requests for data, the project has not seen the collaborative investment required to make it viable.
- The Data: Currently, the repo only contains a few sequences from the Chalmers team. I got probably 100 requests for data and info in private messages but not a single one was invested enough to submit data and at least preprocess that data.
- Maintenance: I am no longer active in FS work and cannot push this project forward alone. Nor am I a data supplier. I am a professional in the AD industry who wanted to provide a foundation for others to build upon.
- Collaboration: To date, no external teams have contributed code, pre-processed data, or helped improve the auto-annotation pipeline.
Communication Gideline (strict)
The intent of this project was to be an open, collaborative effort. Unfortunately, it has shifted into a flood of private messages across my personal social media and even my personal phone number.
Since it seems to not have been clear before here are some guidelines:
- Do not contact me privately. This includes LinkedIn, personal social media, and especially my personal phone number.
- Public Discussion Only: If you have questions or want to discuss the project, open an issue here. I already stopped responding to private inquiries.
- No "Free Data" Requests: I do not have a hoard of data to give out. The project requires teams to submit and process their own data to grow.
Moving Forward
I still believe the dataset structure and scripts provided here are a promising start. If a team or individual is interested in taking over maintenance or leading the effort the code is here and public. I am happy to share knowledge and provide advice. I will gladly hand over the reins to someone with the time and interest to lead the FS community in this direction.
If no one is willing to contribute code or data, the project will remain in its current state as a reference archive (a.k.a proof of concept).
