no longer farming after upgrade to 1.8.0

I have been farming / harvesting since Jul 2017. we had 3 remote ubuntu 20.04 machines and my mac as the master running the GUI.
I recently had to update chia to 1.8 and ubuntu to 22.04 now my mac sees the plots but no harvesting activity seen on farming tab.
In addition I built a new machine which exhibits the same results. I can create new plots and they will show up both in the plots tab and in the pool tab. the gui reports 5 harvesters 4 remote + itself. can anyone help me get back on track? The strange thing was that at one point on 6/17/2023 2 of the four machines responded with plots passing filter and maybe even proofs discovered but it only lasted for a couple of minutes and nothing since.
